“Taste of the world can realize by mouthwatering food”,

no one can’t deny the statement right?

On this page, I will let you know how is my days in food adventure.

First of all, I will categorize it into several kind of taste:

1.       Melayu Food, the various type of Melayu Food. It’s not only come from Indonesia but also Malaysia and Brunei. It have unique character with spice and local ingredients. As an original people of Melayu island, the flavor is my favorite. It’s common for me as daily intake. I used to change my perspective on Melayu food, but only the degree of spice. Naturally, it has character with salty and balanced element of plant and animal combinations.

I will give you an example, the simplest food is nasi katok. It contains rice, sambal, and fried chicken. Telling you more about Melayu food is awesome, we have: nasi goreng, bakso, mie ayam, nasi lemak, ayam penyet, lele penyet, nasi kerabu, ambuyat, soto, lemang, nasi padang, gulai, sate, sayur lodeh, rojak, tahu, tempe, cucur, kerupuk, etc.

Many famous restaurants which serve the original taste of Melayu food in Brunei. You can go to Pondok Sariwangi, Bali Pitstop, Aminah Arif, Soto Pabo, Soto Hj. Tuah, Sate Hj Ibrahim.

2.       Chinese Food, warm and delicious eastern food is one of my comfort food. The joy of umami taste and dominantly with salty flavor give experiences rich protein ingredient. I like the soup, noodles, porridge, chicken steam, pao, dimsum, siew mie, wantan, kolo wantan, etc. My favorite restaurants to dine-in are KTM restaurant, Rice Bowl Restaurant, Thien-Thien restaurant and Kopitiam. I considering the Halal spot with affordable menu.

3.       Indian Food, the great taste of kari and plain bread are the main attractions of the tongue. Some other foods like samosa, curry puff, ayam kurma, and dosa also have some place in my heart. People like to order the menu for breakfast or light dinner. In some areas, the restaurant also offer other kinds of food to give extra choice (like Melayu and Arabic Food). They have some chefs who can serve the original taste with modifications. In example you can find fish curry with soup to enjoy. I think it’s not supposed to be like that, but you can still ask as they serve.

Don’t miss ordering tarik tea, which is the best beverage for Indian food. It’s warm and sweet. Some restaurants will give recommendation to order tarik tea with halia (ginger). I can’t deny, it taste so good. Especially on rainy days.

4.       Western Food, You will get on fast food, pasta restaurant, and fine dining places. Local people really enjoy western-type dining. Like burger, pasta, sandwich, steak, fries, fish and chips, cakes, doughnut, etc. Don't worry global fast foods are completely available here, you can find KFC, McD, Burger King, Pizza Hut, or even starbuck and coffee bean the branches are anywhere. European classic styles of serving dominate most of restaurant, especially for high tea season. The cupcake tier and the warm drink literally made like western society with halal vibes. I really glad to know how white wash in the eastern world can be so blended well. It’s good and imply of royal.

Many western restaurants with authentic taste are available in Bandar Sri Begawan. One of my favorite is Ricardo Café, they serve Italian menu. The Chef is friendly and they have really nice ambience. Located in a house and decorated like a family dining table. It’s a warm place to gather and share laughs. Other than that, you have choice for other restaurants like Piccolo Cafe, Frattini Restaurant, Margarita Restaurant.

There are three parts of dine time: main time (lunch and dinner), and conjugate time (breakfast and high tea). Not necessarily find the best time to go, just go with a plan and reservation in advance for space avaibility.
