Recycling Business Unit of Danone
Two weeks ago I joined Danone Young Social Entrepreneur
(DYSE) for final National competition. On 18th August I and all of
DYSE participants visited Recycling Business Unit of Danone at South Tangerang,
Banten. The product of RBU is PET flakes from trace bottle. It use as material
for nylon or plastic rope.
The Operational Manager called dr. Jack told us that social
business must have PROFIT for sustainability. The income of RBU around 40 till
50 million per month. They needed more than 2 billion to built it. The biggest
cost that they spend is cost of the material. RBU must pay 4 till 5 thousand
rupiah per kg trace bottle. The price depend on the quality. There are
reduction after production activity around 4 kg per ton. So every businessman
who want to build their own business must to think three components: cost of
material, cost of labor and modal.
This RBU is one of the 13 RBU that built in Indonesia. Most
of it located on Sumatera, Java and Bali. 75% of the labors are women, they are
diligent, careful and having high responsibility. Discipline controlled by
CCTV, for every violation they would get cut of income.
One of the problem that still being homework of RBU is side
waste management. RBU open any ideas that come not only from expert but also
from colleges like us.
