Green Depot Brunei
Bank Sampah is Indonesian common words for sustainable community for exchange garbage into something more valuable (it can be money mostly). This is the thing I used to do in University, yeah and I get scholarship because of it too.
So here I want to talk about kind same community as bank
sampah in Brunei. The system is some of volunteer run the depot or post to buy
some of certain garbage and sell it again for recycling and reuse it. The items
that accepted are paper, scrap metal, aluminium cans, and electronic waste. The
range of the rates can be $0.01 till $0.50 per kg, and free of charge for
plastic bottle and electronic waste. The green depot also make event like thrift shop and
take the fund for supporting some needed person or community.
Green Depot build as Government platform to do recycling for
Brunei Community. It is officially open on 7th December 2018,
supporting by BSP (Brunei Shell Petroleum) and Nextacloud. It run by government
employee and volunteer, the business run everyday from 9 am till 4 pm. They accept people who want to be
volunteer, you can register on rebrand.ly/GreenVolunteer.
The business going under online system. The member have to
join to their website and after collected sufficient amount of money to redeem
the money. You can register your account at http://recover.green-brunei.com.
Complete the form and make your account, collect you garbage, bring it to the
depot, make transaction, then after you get enough amount you can take the
cash (redeem).
Everyone who live around Kuala Belait can be member and
joining the system, not only local but also foreign people. No need I/D card to
register, just name and email. So easy yeah
The green depot staffs also actively socialize their program
to the people by make campaign in festival like KBku Ceria, come door to door
to share brochure, and update on media social platform like Instagram, twitter,
and facebook (@greendepotbn). They also introducing the green living activity toward
student at school or the student visit Green Depot directly.
Green Depot not only do recycling garbage, but also make some events to do cleaning around Kuala Belait. The info will shared in instagram, and people must register first for join it.
The enthusiasms of people around KB to Green Depot Community is very good. I saw many people come to participate on thrift shop event. We have to bring our own recycle bag. The things came from donation of local people and the management sell it again for charity. The price of the item only $1, not only clothes but also toys, books, and shoes. You can find branded casual clothes, formal like blazer, till baju kurung. It bring different adrenaline to dig treasure in low price. What I love from thrifting is someone’s trash can be our come up!
The implementation of Green Depot is very good for environment.
We can recycle of the garbage into something useful again, and get the money as
well. Make a new trash is very easy, buy
new things can you do anytime. But every time you waste new trash it make world
getting worse. It takes a long time to degrade the waste in soil, some of it
need more than million years. It is so unwise being human, living in the world for 70
years in avegare but producing ton garbage per year that hardly to destroy by
nature.
So that’s all from me, I wish my writing can give new impact
to our better world!
